Ardbeg 'Still Young'
From WhIsKi
Ardbeg's Islay distillery was closed down and mothballed in 1981, and then reopened in 1997 when it was bought out by Glenmorangie Plc. One of the new innovations is to market a range of whiskies as they mature from distilling in 1998, to being a 10yo in 2008. The 'Still Young' (8yo, bottled in 2006) is the middle of the three whiskies, following on from the 'Very Young' (6yo, 2004) and leading up to the 'Almost There' (9yo, 2007).
Because it's Still Young, the whisky is really pale (having had no caramel added) and is very peaty. The flavour is smooth and gives away nothing about the strength... Only when we tried to stand up at the end of the evening did we discover we'd been drinking a cask strength whisky at 56.2% [right?]!
