Balblair 26yo

Picked up this bottle at the airport, on my way to Canada. Half price at £45 left me wondering if I'd be sampling a £90 dram or a dram in need of a discount. But really, how can you go wrong with a whisky distilled in 1979. Older than my girlfriend.

Balblair distillery is way up in the highlands, not far from Cynelish. They claim to have the cleanest air in Scotland. I thought my bathroom held that award.

Nose is light peat and seaweed underscored by good wood (bourbon vanillas). A Springbank from a metre away.

Taste rolls in slowly, building up to a warm frolic of sudsy oak and malt. The taste holds its own then slowly drops off. The aftertaste is truly of highland water. I kid you not. Sweet and refreshing. A breath of grapes at the end. No extra kick from the 46%. Sounds like fun, but it seems to be missing something. Maybe I like more character. Maybe I really don't take to the chintzy gold-leaf labeling.
