Highland Park 18 yo
From WhIsKI
The Highland Park 18 yo has received heaps of praise in trade magazines by self-appointed masters of malt. The 12 yo is one of my standbys in pubs but has never blown me away. Nevertheless I went out on a limb (albeit rather robust) and picked up a bottle after Whisky Fringe 2006. From start to finish it was never a disappointment.
The nose is mellow: citrus balance by tropical mangos and bananas. None of the rotten socks that afflicts whiskies away from the West Coast. Malt is the taste, which is always a winner with me whether it be from whisky or ale. After the burst of sweet and nummy, the peat, notably absent from the nose, digs in leaving a taste for more.
