Macallan Fine Oak 15 yo

This is the last of my bottles from last year's Whisky Fringe. At the Fringe, I had compared the 15 yo against The Macallan's 10 and 21 yo. It beat the others easily. I should have done a review a while ago, when this 15 yo was fresh. But I can certainly attest that it stood up to a year's worth of savouring.

The nose is a bit off-putting, with a strong sweet and musty whiff provided by the sherry cask. There is some nice nutmeg, cinnamon, and other warming spices, but not so much as to be reminiscent of christmas-cake. The taste is the real winner. Clean and malty with a brandy-like finish: sweet and woody.
