ROE Whisky Society
From WhIsKI
The ROE Whisky Society was first founded at the historic first event, the brainchild of Stuart. The idea was conceived as a means of surviving the cold months waiting for summer to return, bringing the next Whisky Festival.
The Society is nomadic by nature, with any member volunteering to host the next event in their home. The host is privalaged with the final choice of whiskies for the event, and is re-imbursed with a figure of £10 from each attendee. Hosts spending more than £10 per head are considered to be very foolish, but quite lovely for buying so much booze.
The name of the society has been, and still is, a topic for much debate. Initially referred to as the "whisky club", the group has had many names, including "Alcoholic Astronomers" (sharing its initials with another well known group with an interest in whisky consumption), but seems to have settled on the name of The ROE Whisky Society. The establishment of the WhIsKI by Eric cemented the society as a feature of the ROE social scene, and a major drain on the ROE's productivity.
During the first phase of the society, membership appeared exclusive, open by invitation. As attendence at meetings fluctuates however, it is expected that the events will soon be advertised to the wider social community at the ROE (right?). One idea is invite anyone interested to join a mailing list for news about future meetings.
