The Arran Malt Port Cask Finish
The first release by Scotland's newest distillery (as of 2005), this single cask malt from the island of Arran is most notable for it's ruddy, almost pink hue. So far it is the least whisky-like whisky I've sampled.
The nose is full of ripe red fruit, almost like a fortified wine like, say, port. Supporting fruit is a light peatiness which prevents the fruit nose from cloying.
On the pallate there is a warmth coming from cinnamon, nutmeg, and cherry, but none of the prunes that make similar portwoods reminiscent of christmas pudding.
Gets bonus marks for being distinctive yet still clearly a fine whisky.
